A chance meeting at a coffee shop on Sunset Boulevard, LA, was how these beautiful flares started their life! Nik, our Flare Street designer, bumped into Dani from Dazey LA sipping on a morning coffee and after chatting about their brands and slow fashion ethos, the idea of a collaboration came to light.
Dani draws beautiful designs and had spent years as a graphic designer, but was looking at creating a textile for her brand and Nik LOVES nothing more than turning artwork into flares! Within a few hours, Dani was back at Nik's Air Bnb, trying on flares, getting into the groove of velvet and snapping pics... By the end of it, it was decided, Dani would create the retro print and Nik would create the flares - on velvet of course!
The flares are available now for pre-order in a retro Orange & Green as well as a Brown and Pink colourway. We've made these in our original flare design as well as the new wide-leg flares, both in velvet and both super comfy!
We're currently printing the fabric with our Australian based sustainable printers, so they will be ready for you to groove around in super soon! You can shop them on our site here!

We get way too excited about our flares and this was one of the hardest secrets to keep! These flares have been hanging out in our studio for a year now, waiting for Splendour and the summertime festivals before they could go out into the world... for those of you who have swung past the studio since last year would know all about these!!
Sourced from one of our fab local suppliers around the corner in Melbourne, we snapped up all of the sequins that had to make this collection come to life.
With massive inspo from Studio 54 days, where Keith Richards met Patti Hansen, Diana Ross and Cher got fabulously groovy and Bianca Jagger rode a white horse across the dance floor.... you can only imagine how outrageously fabulous the outfits were!Captured in the forrest of Idyllwild, California, last September, when the sun was peaking through and the light was mystical. We shot these flares in the cosiest little 60's cabin in the woods and highlighted the dreamy, phosphorescent vibes they emanate.
They're so limited and made to order!

We'd love talking about our fabrics, printing ethics and inspiration so have a read as we explain the details of these Flare Street pieces as you scroll.
For the last few years, all we've had in our mind is to create a Peter Max inspired velvet dream. We worked with Jas from Harley & J to bring this dream to life, mixing the Peter Max iconic sun motif with Jas' unique celestial prints. As a nod to the late 60's we chose a bright, psychedelic colour palette (our Astro Blue colourway), for the 70's a Terra Nova Rust and a modern day take of Cotton Candy pinks.
Our silk style chiffon capes were printed in Melbourne with a large image of the Dhana Dreams design. Our classic Azura Flares are a staple for the flare-lovers out there. Seen here with delicate fringe details and a matching high neck top, this print is featured in the Dhana Dreams print and their colourways match too. We added fringing for the show but message us if you'd like a custom order, they add extra length and extra glam!
Our Hendrix Night's flares feature a very, very special Moon Lady motif. Hand drawn by Nik's talented sister, Shell, she sparkles brightly between a falling galaxy of twinkling stars. Our Moon Lady embodies power, independence and encourages you to dream big and reach for those stars. She's alluring, calming and nurturing and inspired by the latest tattoo that designer, Nik, created.
Hand patchworked wide-leg flares. These beauties are authentic patchwork, taking 24 hours to make. We hand-cut each velvet piece, ensured the colours ran the right way, placed the pieces perfectly, sewed the panels and then turned them into our latest design of wide-leg flares!

Nik hand made this chain belt in the NYC garment district a few days before the show.
All of these velvet fabrics are commissioned pieces of artwork making them so, so unique. We work with a sustainable printed in Sydney and sew all our garments in Melbourne.

We wanted to take you on a journey through our New York Fashion Week adventure, it was an absolute whirlwind! With the fittings beginning 4 days before the show in a Midtown high rise overlooking 7th avenue, we met the wonderful models that would be wearing our new Cosmic Velvet Collection.
The next few days were full of stitching on our trimming: sequinned gold stars, magenta & turquoise fringing and golden beads. And then it was runway time!! Check out our next blog post for the behind the scenes at the runway!
